National Priorities Project Job Description Database Manager / Web Developer INTRODUCTION National Priorities Project (NPP) makes complex federal budget information transparent and accessible so people can prioritize and influence how their tax dollars are spent. Located in Northampton, MA, since 1983, NPP focuses on the personal and societal impact of federal spending at the national, state, congressional district and local levels. Find out more at http://www.nationalpriorities.org. The Database Manager/Web Developer is responsible for overseeing the growth and maintenance of the NPP Database and Tradeoffs. The database contains socio-economic and federal expenditure data and statistics, including sources and related links, at state-level in 10 issue areas; county-level in 8 issue areas; and at school district level in the issue area of education. This position is also responsible for conceiving and executing creative tools and web-based applications that allow the data to come alive and be used by a diverse constituency. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Oversee the development and maintenance of both the content and structure of the NPP Database 2. Collect, organize and input large quantities of data and statistics at the state, county, town and congressional district levels 3. Work with other organizations around the data and statistics where necessary 4. Work with NPP staff in developing publicity materials, factsheets, workshops and other marketing work for the NPP Database 5. Set direction for NPP in collaboration with colleagues 6. Work to develop web-based tools which utilize the data QUALIFICATIONS Required 1. Advanced education in the social sciences with significant research and quantitative experience; 2. Proficiency with database, spreadsheet and word processing applications; 3. Working knowledge of statistics; 4. Expert with Django-Python and MySQL databases; 5. Basic HTML/CSS skills; 6. Tenacious problem solving skills and ability to work independently. Preferred 1. Working knowledge of SPSS, SAS, R or other equivalent program; 2. Knowledge of economic or federal budget issues; 3. Experience in popular education and/or advocacy work; 4. Experience working in a non-profit organization. REPORTING AND SUPERVISION This position reports to the Executive Director and may supervise part-time interns or volunteers. HOURS AND COMPENSATION This position is full-time with medical insurance, dental benefits, and paid leave. Competitive salary; commensurate with experience.
