[Hidden-tech] Copying from MacBook to DVD

I want to copy a 975-MB folder (too big for a CD) from my 2006 
MacBook (running System 10.4) to a DVD.

I tried three different blank discs. First one never showed up in the 
finder but stayed in the drive until I hit restart, second and third 
were spat out immediately.

Any advice?
