*Dear HT,* * * *I'm a member of the Amherst Rotary club and wanted to let people know about this grant opportunity. * *More information is listed below and on the website - www.amherstrotaryclub.org* *Please feel free to pass this on to non-profits in the area.* *Sincerely,* *Andrew * * * *Non-Profits Invited to Apply for * *$25,000 Amherst Rotary Community Grant* * * To strengthen its service impact in the local community, the Rotary Club of Amherst (“RCA”) recently announced a new $25,000 Community Grant, which will be awarded in the Spring of 2010. RCA will use a competitive application process to identify a single local civic project, or a project at a local non-profit organization that will provide an important and *sustainable*improvement to the quality of life in our community. Organizations wishing to apply for this grant should submit complete applications *as soon as possible and no later than February 28, 2010*. We expect to announce a grant winner in late April or early May 2010. Please click here to obtain an *Amherst Rotary Community Grant Application* with complete instructions. For any questions or suggestions, please email us at grantinfo at AmherstRotaryClub.org. All projects eligible for a Community Grant must: (1) have an important and sustainable community impact that continues long after grant funds have been spent; and (2) directly benefit our local area, comprised of Amherst, Belchertown, Hadley, Pelham, Leverett and Shutesbury. Because of the emphasis on sustainability, proposals to fund capital expenditures may tend to be preferred over projects funding operating expenses. RCA is planning the Community Grant as a new annual initiative *in addition to the club’s ongoing giving and scholarship programs.* Last year, RCA donated about $24,000 to local non-profit organizations, international humanitarian projects, and college scholarships to graduating local high school students. This new Community Grant program has been made possible due to strong community support for the club’s fundraisers, including the new Amherst Rotary Auction held each November on ACTV, which raised over $32,000 this year, up from $26,000 in 2008 (its first year). With the continuing success of the auction and other fundraisers (mainly the COVAC bicycle rally and the Amherst Community Fair), RCA hopes to offer an Amherst Rotary Community Grant each year, in addition to its ongoing giving and scholarship programs. * * The Rotary Club of Amherst is part of Rotary International, a 1.3 million member, non-profit, global service organization that, through the Rotary Foundation, is the world’s largest private provider of scholarships for international study, and a major player in global health and humanitarian initiatives. Such initiatives include projects for the worldwide eradication of polio (a cause to which Rotary has already contributed or pledged about $750 million), as well as projects to improve literacy and provide access to clean water in developing countries.
