Scott, Joomla and Drupal are both very popular and well supported. I've only worked with Joomla myself, but both seem to be great solutions for a lot of problems. That being said if you're planning on doing a lot of customization you might want to look at something like .NET Nuke, which will better match your skill set (unless you want to expand into PHP). If you can make do with the vast array of plug-ins available for the big two, then that would certainly make things easier for you. Another thing to think about is that Joomla, Drupal and .NET Nuke are all general purpose solutions and can be somewhat unwieldy. If your need is for something more focused, you might want to look into more specialized solutions like WordPress for Blogging or an ECommerce solution (many of which have enough CMS functionality built in to manage a primarily ECommerce site) I am not a big believer in one size fits all solutions. -Dan On Tue, Aug 3, 2010 at 8:10 PM, Scott Main <scott at mainconsultingservices.com > wrote: > ** Be sure to fill out the survey/skills inventory in the member's area. > ** If you did, we all thank you. > > > > Hello All: I’m new to the group. > > > > I’m interested in developing “my first” content management site. > > > > Can anyone tell me what the best technology for me to begin with is between > Drupal or Joomla (or suggest another) > > > > My experience includes .asp, .aspx sites, vb.net, ms access, vba, > javascript, SQL Server, TSQL and relational database development. > > > > I’m interested in simplicity in terms of learning at the beginners level as > well as the industry standard when choosing as CMS to learn… > > > > Thank you in advance for any input my may have… > > > > Scott Main > > 413.246.9235 > > www.mainconsultingservices.com > > > > > > _______________________________________________ > Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net > Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net > > You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list. > If you would like to change your list preferences, Go to the Members > page on the Hidden Tech Web site. > http://www.hidden-tech.net/members > -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
