Paul, Maybe there's a Hidden-Tech discussion in this topic. I recently promoted a local event - the Conway Festival of the Hills. I created an "event" on Eventbrite. Another event website that I found is eventful - http://eventful.com/ With eventful, you can subscribe to their email newsletter (or check online) - plug in your zip code, subscribe to categories of events (music, family, etc.). I'm currently subscribing to their email newsletter, and I've discovered several local kids events that I hadn't heard about previously. Another basic resource for listing local events is Craigslist too.
