I would suggest looking at HEAP CRM it's a hosted solution that integrates
with Google Docs/Calendar etc. I've recently switched to GMAIL as my main
email source using it to pickup and send emails from my POP3 accounts on my
domain. It's very powerful and HEAP provides the CRM aspect and integrates
data sharing between everything. It's very simple CRM compared to Sugar or
VTiger, but it works well.

On another note, with SugarCRM you there is a Thunderbird sync component and
with the mail in Sugar you can tell it to use your desktop mail application
for composing emails. That might be another solution.
