[Hidden-tech] buying a used mac from Gainsaver.com

Hi Andrew
I have no experience with Gainsaver (they look very competent) but
have used many Mac models for about two decades.
I can say that my recent survey of CraigsList for Western Mass,
Burlington (VT) and New Hampshire all turned up incredible deals of
software-packed Macs. My guess is that this will just increase as
the economic downturn increases the pressure to downsize holdings of
any but the most essential computers. Look through what you see in
Gainsaver (price, that is) and see if anything on Craigs looks
significantly better in terms of performance v. price. You'll be
buying local so you can probably extract a written 30-day "return if
it fails" owner warranty, and probably also arrange a check out (at
your expense) on a local Mac dealer's bench.
A final option. SmallDog Electronics in Waitsfield, VT is (I think)
the region's largest Apple-licensed dealer of refurbished Macs. They
have demos and factory-refurbished with full Apple or similar store
warranties, and all the hardware, manuals, disks, etc. that you would
find with a brand new product but sometimes at significant savings.
Depending upon factors like product launches and other
unpredictables, pickings can be slim or rich.

Good luck
