[Hidden-tech] Best online backup

I've use Time Machine (Mac) to an external harddrive + Mozy for all critical
files. Mozy has been great in terms of seamless backup, but I have not yet
had to restore from there so can't attest to that side of the experience.

Take a look at Crashplan, also. It's a bit different, but does have some
good uses. One issue with all cloud-based solution is that your internet
connection speed is the major bottleneck. Backing up e.g. 60GB to Mozy or
Carbonite can take more than a week of non-stop backup. Crashplan has a way
around this as you can back up to an external drive that you possibly place
in an alternate location (if you can get a network connection; I
successfully set up dynDNS). Your do the first big backup with the external
drive linked up to your computer, then Crashplan handles incremental backups
over the network, and if you have to restore, you can do it over the network
or, if many files, go retrieve the external drive and hook it back up to
your computer.

Good luck,

Christian
