[Hidden-tech] trademark help needed

To my knowledge, Fred, trademarks only need a Federal registration  
for nationwide proprietary use.  If you have any doubt, continue  
waiting for a response from an IP attorney.   However, if you have a  
trade-name that you are seeking to establish (which may also be a  
trademark) then you will probably also do need to file it with the  
Secretary of State.

Such a filing (and concommitent assignment of a Tax ID number, if  
desired, as well as the legal right to "do business under that name"  
in the Commonwealth) also will come up if you attempt to open a bank  
account under that name.  Having a Federal tax EIN under that name  
will be half the requirement; filing with the Secretary of State (I  
think so, in Massachusetts... I know it is in NH and VT) is the other  
half of the requirement.
