Marcia,

The Ashuwillticook Rail Trail is ideal. It begins from the Berkshire Mall
in Lanesboro, about 20 mins from Lenox, and runs 11 miles north to North
Adams. It's level for about the first 6 miles, and runs alongside a
beautiful lake. People use it for walking, cycling, and rollerblading.
There's a fair amount of parking at the Berkshire Mall end (on Rt. 8) as
well as at various places along the trail. There are also benches if you
want to stop and sit for a while.
