Traditional phone service, cable, VOIPWe have TV, phone, and Internet on RoadRunner, with few complaints. I also use SKYPE for international calls, and that's a little bandwidth-sensitive. That is, I can't be browsing around or have Internet applications like AOL open during a SKYPE call, or the service gets dropouts. A small price to pay, I just close the other apps and have the calls.

  Dear fellow Hidden Tech-ers,

I am about to move and am therefore "starting over" with my home telecommunications services. I am trying to determine what phone service(s) I will have and would welcome your input.

I will have Comcast Internet serviceat my new home as Verizon DSL does not reach to where I will be living in Leeds (Northampton).

I decided that I don't want to rely solely on my cell phone for phone service. I could get Verizon home phone service again, or I could get phone service through Comcast or perhaps Vonage. In past Hidden-Tech discussion about phone service, I seem to recall mixed reviews from users of cable and VOIP services such as Vonage. Have those services improved?

Also, my cell phone contract with Verizon is now up for renewal. I have considered a switch to AT&T so I could get an iPhone (which would be advantageous for professional reasons), but am concerned that AT&T's coverage in the valley not very strong around here. I need good coverage throughout the Valley and along the Mass Pike into Worcester and Boston.

Any thoughts about current personal telecom services will be appreciated.

  Regards,

  David
