Hi all,
I'm currently in Puerto Rico using my AT&T Blackberry as a tethered modem (via bluetooth) with my Mac laptop. I have been doing this about 3 times a year from here and at least 10 times a year from other places. It can be really slow at times, but I can report that I've never paid any extra charge at all. I have a standard unlimited data plan and haven't heard a peep from the carrier.

** Be sure to fill out the survey/skills inventory in the member's area.
** If you did, we all thank you.

While most cellular companies offer an "unlimited data" plan, there have
been many instances where they will say you are using too much data and
terminate that ability.

Matt is right, most carriers mean unlimited data for the phone. If you use
it with a laptop or other computer, they may assess a "tethering charge". I
would definitely check with your carrier to ensure you don't get surprised
by a huge bill.

Matt,

I have an AT&T 8525 Smartphone and they have instructions
for using it as a modem for a laptop, so I'm pretty sure
that that is included in the unlimited data plan.
