[Hidden-tech] Cell phone Choice

The Palm Pre has a wi-fi option. Not sure how long its been on the market. I have heard mixed things via word of mouth, that the battery falls out, yet other people that do not have this problem say it works great. Could have been a recall issue with number of models not sure.

I have a palm treo 650 for years and even replaced it with my insurance with a refurbished phone, paying a deductible of course. I never used the data plan on this phone yet I did use the the calender, and memo pads which I would sync with my computer.

Over time I did have issues with the phone storing info, and lost a lot of data. So I have not used these apps since and used google aps instead which you might have access via wi-fi if you chose to get this on your new phone. I can't even access these apps on my phone now or will shut off on its own, I know its weird. OS is definitely something to consider on a phone, so it would not hurt to do some research, of course I did not have these issues until a couple years after having the phone. Makes me wonder if it could have been a virus that was carried from my computer onto the OS? If work stations/OS are a mirror of there counter parts the IPhone may be the way to go, for apps definitely, for network I would lean towards Verizon (ie:Palm, Blackberry)..  I have also liked to have the touch of the keypad with the Treo, and like that I can text with one hand, thats why I am curious about the Pre. I also read somewhere that the person that designed the
phone was one of the same designers that designed the Iphone, and why it looks so similar. The storm for Verizon is another phone I have been eyeing for awhile, yet for sales and user satisfaction the Bold has the Storm beat...

I am looking for an alternative to iPhone and Blackberry that can provide wifi function and desktop apps that sync to calendar and contacts.  Not interested in the data plans - but do want the wifi option.
Any observations would be great.
