Having your outdoor antenna above a metal roof leads to another thing. All
gain antennas radiate in what we call a beam. Any antenna at a reasonable
height forms a beam that is slightly aimed upward. This is not good. A
sloping metal roof under the antenna will tend to lower this beam more
toward the horizon. "Tend" is the operative word here. The help is not
perfect.
$1 to 2K / install...I am in the wrong business!!!

Yes, and actually, having the metal roofing between your indoor antenna
and the outdoor antenna is a good thing. this is one of the things I
struggled with, finding a location where the two antennas did not
interfere with each other. i spent a whole day doing this last fall.
That said, the person talking about a pro install costing 1k or 2
sounds reasonable!
One more thought: the device someone mentioned that converts your cell
to use a hardwired internet connection from verizon sounds like a good,
easy, relatively affordable choice. but i wanted something as a backup
to my internet as we also use VoIP, so if internet goes down we have
problems. With backup cell service at least i could tether if needed.
