Position: CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Location: Amherst, Massachusetts

Position Overview: Verité is currently seeking a strong and
experienced Chief Operating Officer
(COO) to support organizational growth by further developing and
managing the organization’s
key financial, infrastructural and administrative systems. This new
position, which was created in
response to continuing opportunities for growth, will report directly
to the CEO and have
responsibility for participating in the strategic management and
growth of the organization,
specifically, building and advancing an operational platform that
includes several lines of business
and emerging initiatives, as well as several global offices. This is
an exciting opportunity for a
systems-oriented, solution-driven and seasoned leader to collaborate
with a phenomenal
management team to ultimately help ensure that workers all around the
world are able enjoy a
safe and fair workplace.
Responsibilities: The COO will be directly responsible for leading
day-to-day operations and
delivering high quality results in each of the following areas:
• Business Model Development: Collaborate with the senior management
team to ensure
that all aspects of business operations have been fully developed.
This would include but not
be limited to considering revenue drivers, costs centers, staffing
models – both domestically
and internationally -- management systems, and quality control
efforts. Provide double/triple
bottom line analyses to inform strategic resource allocation decisions.
• Business Management: Help to monitor the administration of all
business lines, program
models and special projects to ensure that they are operating at peak
levels of efficiency and
effectiveness. Work with individual staff in Amherst and in Regional
Offices across the globe
through a collaborative approach and with a strong customer-service
orientation to achieve
organizational goals.
• Strategic Finance: Oversee the CFO’s efforts to manage day-to-day
financial
responsibilities, while also helping to develop financial forecasting
models to aid the
management team in making strategic cost/benefit decisions. Through
ongoing budgetary
and organizational analysis, look for ways in which operating
efficiencies and stronger
accountability systems can lead to cost savings and controls. Explore
financing models to
ensure that Verité has access to all the working capital that it needs.
• Human Resources: Oversee a streamlined and effective recruiting and
hiring function at all
levels of the organization and in all geographic locations. Consider
and make
recommendations regarding reporting relationships, organizational
charts, recruiting methods
(particularly internationally), performance evaluation systems,
compensation and benefit
plans, and professional development and career ladder opportunities.
• Systems Development: Analyze all internal operational systems
across the organization to
determine the extent to which they meet Verité’s needs and/or could be
enhanced to improve
operational efficiency and effectiveness. As needed, work with the
global team to develop
new systems to support growth. Capture best practices over time to
develop policies,
templates, rubrics and check-lists.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will possess many of the
following characteristics:
• At least ten years of management experience in a similar role within
a growing business or
nonprofit organization, including responsibility for financial
management, human resources,
technology and general organizational administration; international
experience preferred
• Proven track record building and managing operational systems for a
dynamic,
entrepreneurial, results-oriented organization
• Experience leading, managing and participating on teams with shared
responsibility for
outcomes and decision-making while demonstrating outstanding
interpersonal
communication skills and a diplomatic, adaptable work style across
widely disparate cultural
environments
• Strong belief in the mission, vision and values of Verité
• Analytical self-starter and self-manager with outstanding multi-
tasking, prioritization and
project management skills combined with a strong sense of personal
accountability
• Bachelors degree required, Masters degree in Business strongly
preferred
