[Hidden-tech] converting Microsoft publisher files to Word for mac 2008

Following up on Andrew's question, I don't believe Microsoft offers
Publisher as an option in Office for Mac. And I don't think Apple's iWork
suite ('09 or earlier, about $80) has a separate program that's counterpart
to Publisher. But iWork's Pages has some Publisher-like aspirations.

Does anyone know whether iWork Pages will open Publisher files? If so, is
this a reasonable way to accomplish what Andrew is after?
