[Hidden-tech] a question on recruiting

Hello Amy,
I am familiar with the Robert Half company I was considered for a freelance opportunity, yet was not given the job.

The way it works is very business like. You speak to a recruiter over the phone who at this point has already looked at your resume and portfolio that you potential creative/tech person have already uploaded to there website.

They brief you on the phone about the position and you come in for an interview and test, which is more of a screening really. The test you take are multiple choice about 60 or so questions and that you need answer in 50 some odd min. They will test you on programs that are relevant to the job criteria like html, photoshop, whatever.

Now I don't completely agree with the test itself because not everyone is a test taker, and as designer or tech person there are some things we are not going to know yet that doesn't mean we are not resourceful enough to find out the answer.
Also all positions as far as I know are temp or temp to hire, and usually on site. So for the independent designers out there who like having the comfort of working from home on projects this is not the case here.

As far as pay you get a decent hourly rate from what they advertise. I am sure they receive some compensation during your employment and if you get hired permanently.

They have been around maybe 50 odd years, they are a top 500 fortune company for what they do in the advertising and staffing industry, and located in major cities like Boston, NYC, and Hartford.

Hope that helps!

Hi all,

I've been conducting a running dialogue for a year with members of
the Robert Half recruiting agency's various departments about how
they can better serve virtual company owners like us who depend on
project work -- preferably retainer-based clients. Ironically, they
found me by showing up to Hidden-Tech's 5th birthday party to scope us out.

I'm curious how many of you knew that Robert Half offers recruiting
services for project work for both techies and those in the creative sectors?

I certainly did not. And to be honest, I'm not plugging them or
working for them. I don't even have a clear sense of what they do
offer, which is why I'm turning to the list with these questions:

-- Have any of you heard of this agency?

-- Have any of you ever utilized their services?

-- If so, were your experiences positive? negative? in-between?

-- Would any of you be willing to pay money for an agent or "head
hunter" who could get you project work, or even retainer clients?

Let me know. Could be I'll write about this. But I will certainly
pass on your thoughts to this organization and many others. As
someone who has never located an on-line job board I could stand, and
would love a work agent or head hunter to assist me when work is
slow, I think it would be great of the recruiting industry caught up
to our needs. Curious if you agree.

best,
