Is this a one time scan or something they will do many times? Some scanners come packaged with software that will allow you to convert directly to a pdf. I use a Fujitus ScanSnap that has this capability in my on going attempt to have a paperless office. Its high speed, scans both sides of the page, its easy to use, and low cost (about $400). I am not familiar with software that you can purchase separately but I am sure it must exist.
