It occurs to me that there is clearly an environmental component to data security. The bottom line is that all this personal data that is collected and stored by various businesses creates not just the problem of securing that data (which is often done poorly) but also the problem of rendering the hardware 'too toxic' for simple reuse and recycling. Perhaps one of the best things we can all do to mitigate this problem is to begin refusing to provide personal data when it isn't absolutely necessary. Some things to consider: Do online merchants I use store my credit card number (I'm looking at you iTunes)? What about brick and mortar outlets? Do I use frequent buyer cards at the grocery store? Do I fill out membership forms that require far more personal information than is required to provide the service (web sites, etc)? Just something to think about... Chris Woods
