[Hidden-tech] Comcast Phone Service

Last year when we moved into a new house our plan was to take advantage of the Comcast deal of cable/phone/TV.  When we set up the move I was told that my current number that I use for business would be ported to the comcast line. Upon installation that was no longer the case. The only way to keep my business number was to use Verizon. We kept the comcast phone active until the promotion ran out.

The service seemed ok, no problems.
One thing you might want to look at. If you have Verizon now and switch to Comcast they will re-do the lines. If you want to switch back to Verizon, Verizon will have to rewire again and you will be charged.

Also want to let you know that my friend just moved into a new house in Northfield. The prior owners never had Comcast so he asked if they needed to do a site inspection first since they are on a hill in the woods. Comcast did not think they did. When it came time  to install, Comcast said it will take us longer to set up the lines so it will be two weeks before we can do this.  He had no phone or cell service or internet for two weeks. both he and his partner work from home.    When they finally did get it turned on, they have had many problems with both internet and phone not working at all. Service went down again at his house this morning and he is waiting for them to come back and fix the problem, again.

Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Re: [Hidden-tech] Comcast Phone Service

If you plug in an old fashioned phone it will work with the power supplied by the phone line. Just like the old days.

We have this service, and while I find it very good and reliable, we live in an area of the world that has no cell phone service.  So, when the service goes out, we have no service whatsoever.  Even if the modem does have the backup battery, the phone we have connected to it requires juice from the wall.  So, when the power goes down, we have no phone service.  I don’t know if the battery backup powers a standard landline phone that gets power from the phone line.  All-in-all, though the service has been good.  Just have a backup…

Does anybody have experience with Comcast phone service? Is it reliable? Have you experienced any down-time? Is call quality comparable to traditional phone service? Any advantages or disadvantages you have seen?

Do you know if it is compatible with a home security system?

Thanks for your opinions.

Best regards,

- Christine
