[Hidden-tech] Verizon vs. Comcast

In terms of TV, we've ditched cable and are now feeding a macbook into
the TV (we use Crocker DSL). The networks have most of their shows
all streamed to their websites now - abc.com, cbs.com, hulu.com (which
also has movies). It works great and it's free.

We bought a relatively inexpensive 1080p HDTV Sony tube - for $600
which is heavy, but has a picture that blows away most flat screens.
And the macBook feeds an HDTV signal into the TV. The networks sites
aren't in HDTV yet but look just fine. But they are starting to feed
their sites HDTV this year. So that will be an HDTV feed for free!

And if you want to rent a movie or even buy one in the moment, there's
iTunes. I just downloaded a couple of the 2007 ALCS and World Series
games for $2.

For phone we use Verizon, but are planning on moving to Crocker's
residential VOIP when it is available this year. Which will mean that
we only have 1 telcomm provider in the house and they will be locally-
owned - we'll be Verizon *and* Comcast free in the house!!!!! Woohoo!
