Given this article is written by Wagner James Au, whose specialty is Second Life, what is meant by "virtual corporation" is probably businesses formed within Second Life or with a Second Life component--not online businesses per se.

Second Life has had a lot of trouble re the number of money-making businesses within it. In Second Life, one does not use regular dollars (or euros) but something called "Linden Dollars"--a currency unique to Second LIfe. There's been much discussion about tax implications for Second Life, which jurisdiction it falls under (the U.S. or something else,) the "exchange rate" and even whether or not the money that's made there is real money.

So, I really doubt that the "virtual"or on-line corporation law of Vermont is important to folks who are, perhaps, selling e-books or making money from other computer-based businesses. In that sense, a business is a business. If you're doing "business" in Second Life however--that can be problematic.

Best,
Tish
