Susanna, I record hours of telephone conversations with authors delivering their content to me. I use the Olympus WS-300 series as has been mentioned because of the USB port convenience. I find the recording quality is better when I use an external lavaliere mic when I'm recording in person. I also have a Radio Shack Telephone Recording Control (Google Model Number 43-228A) that hooks the phone line directly to the recorder. I also use recording software (Roxio) on my computer and use the Radio Shack device to record directly onto my computer. You might also be interested in Express Scribe (Google in quotes to find)-a free downloadable transcription application that makes it easy to slow down, pause, and speed up the recording as you transcribe using your keyboard. I've also used Dragon systems voice recognition software but found it took me too long to find and correct the errors it created. Cheers, Claudia Claudia Gere & Co. Techies and non-techies alike can give me a hand with this issue. As a wordsmith, I record a lot of interviews. I usually transcribe them myself. Yes, I know there are online services, but it usually helps me to get inspired if I listen to the recording and take notes. What recorder/transcriber combination works best? Low cost is good. Ive gone back to old-fashioned tape because I have a foot pedal to stop and start the recording. Figure I need same for digital.
