Marcia, I think "avoid the teenagers" refers to the fact that a big part of YouTube users are just kids surfing around. It doesn't hurt if they watch your video, but you don't get a good sense of the potential clients and colleagues--your target audience--that are watching. If you're going to take the time to create a marketing video (and I think it's worth the time/money for most everyone), you should really try to make it work for you. To that effect, you might want to consider placing it on other video sharing web sites as well. You aren't avoiding the teenagers that way, but you are reaching out to other people. Tubemogul.com is a handy way to do that, and it lets you track your video on various sites so you have a better idea who's watching it. Also, you should tag your video (on youtube or on other web sites) so that people find it when they are searching for marketers, naming firms etc. SEO pays off A LOT with video. There's less competition, so it's pretty easy to get a high ranking when someone does a video search on Google. Your video will also get recommended to people who are watching similar things on YouTube. One more note: if you want to embed your video on your web page, don't do it through YouTube. After the video is over, YouTube recommends other videos, so people could be on your web site watching any kind of video from YouTube. I think having a video on the internet right now can give you an advantage, so you should really work that and get your video seen by everyone--teenagers or not!
