Tish - thank you so much for this heads up - I'm going to keep digging
- this is a major concern, obviously.
I will keep you all posted - if it's all good, then it's amazing....if
it's bad, I want us all to know!
thanks,
Julie

First, congrats to Marcia on her first video! nicely done!
And I've seen Tom's stuff--which is lots of fun, and I really enjoyed
it :-)
But I'd beware of anyone who promises something like Relativity Corp
is promising--and for what seems to me to be a pretty steep price. I
was curious about the testimonials, so I googled everyone listed.
There are no listings for Time Creative group, nor Pacific Site Group,
nor Lant Industries nor Golden Opportunity Resorts.
Maybe it's just me, but if I can't verify the folks giving
testimonals, then what's the value of the testimonial? And what's the
value of the business?
What David Skul sounds like he's doing is putting together a network
where people only link to and follow one another, and is charging for
it. Which seems kind of strange to me. As if he's saying "you're
only good and credible if you're in my club." Huh??? But I can't
even find any of the people who say he's done good stuff for them!
yikes!
Now, video *can* work as a marketing tool--another friend Pinny
Gwinnish of Ice.com has done great with his videos on YouTube. He's
set up his own network on YouTube, so I think if you search for Pinny,
you can find him (his videos are hysterical.) He's also done great
with blogs as a word of mouth marketing tools for Ice.com, a popular
jewelry site. Pinny spoke at the Word of Mouth Marketing Association
(WOMMA) conference in Dec. 06. you can check out the WOMMA site
here: http://womma.org
The Word of Mouth Marketing Assoc. was founded by Andy Sernovitz, and
maintains a list of standards and ethics for word of mouth marketing.
Andy's another friend and an all around great, ethical guy. His blog,
which follows what's going on in the world of WOM is here: http://www.damniwish.com/
If you want to syndicate your content further than RSS, you can try
NewsTex (http://newstex.com/). But depending on your content, and if
people want it, the amount of money you make is relative. Also,
Mochila (http://www.mochila.com/) does video syndication--but video
search is still pretty difficult to search. You might want to check
out Dabble (http://dabble.com) Mary Hodder, the founder, has been
working on video search for a number of years now. She was featured
in Newsweek about a year or two ago, along with the founders of Flickr
and a couple of other businesses.
So, I always stick by the adage that if someone's promising you
something really big, check out the testimonials. Email people if you
can. Google the crap out of the person and anyone affiliated with him
or her (other corporate officers, etc.) This info can tell you a lot
Best,
Tish

Thanks, Tom!
Okay - So, I have a great way to avoid the teenagers, or any
unqualified traffic, just clicking through. Of course, nothing is
completely foolproof. That said - the goal is to align your efforts
with the wishes of the search engines - creating a lot of good content
- copy, audio, video - and then getting it to out to people actually
looking for your content - organically.
I'm part of a very cool co-op that syndicates content for each other.
What could be better than having other people talking about you and
telling the world 'hey look at this!' The members are researched,
approved and credible and the content is solid. There are very strict
regulations on content - 2 strikes and you're out - and the content is
filtered through a human team. (no junk, no spam, no sales - just
good, expert info and value)
I'm using it for some of my clients and about to use it for my own
business (I'm just too dang busy producing content for everyone
else!)...I've spoken to, er grilled, David Skul, CEO, at length and am
very impressed with the co-op. I've asked him for a benefit/stats
sheet and it is very impressive - I'm happy to share if you want to
see. It shows growth and traffic stats for the co-op as a whole over
the last 3 months.
The price is incredible - $1000/year...
Check it out:
www.relativitycorp.com
I LOVE the honesty and integrity of this group - so with no further
ado - yes, because this co-op is being built on quality referrals, I
will receive a referral fee if any of you sign-up. I found the co-op
through a very trusted colleague who has a huge online business and is
benefitting from the co-op in leaps and bounds.
Thanks,
Julie

Marcia,
I just got to watch your video (i was behind a silly firewall that
blocks youtube before). Nice job indeed. also fyi: Julie Roads
shared some good info with me regarding a co-op style of syndication
that helps direct online videos to a specific audience ...Julie go for
it....forward your email to the rest of list...great idea.

Hi folks,
Please let me know what you think of my debut video on
YouTube depicting the Hidden Tech lifestyle:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-HgjPdfGiE
My friend Anne Zononi in Chesterfield made it for me
(anniez at hughes.net). She is available to do a similar
video for others in the area, if you're interested.
The footage was shot about two weeks ago. We still have
considerable snow in the woods, and the lake depicted on
the video is still half-covered with ice. I did put away
my snowshoes, though.
