I would recommend Kevin Vanderleeden at IP Lawyers (link below). He has
done work for me and for a friend of mine at a major branding firm in New
York City. His office is in Springfield.
His e-mail is Vanderleeden at ip-lawyers.com and his work phone is: (413)
736-5572 x.1414
While the web site is IP Lawyers, the firm's name is McCormick, Paulding &
Huber.
He's also a member of this listserv.

Margot:
You need a Patent Attorney, also known as an Intellectual Property Attorney.
There are several well-established firms in Springfield, eg:
http://ip-lawyers.com/attorney/attnames.shtml
http://hblaw.org/firmprofile.epl
http://www.ogklaw.com/services/
Also an individual in Lee that I've worked with -- Malcolm Chisholm
http://www.mjcpatents.com/
There is also a local group call Innovator's Resource Network --
http://www.irnetwork.org/ -- that meets monthly where you can safely share
your idea and get feedback.
The very first thing you (or they) should do is search the USPTO.gov
database to see if anyone else has already invented your idea or something
very similar to it.
Good luck :-)
Greg

I need an attorney and not sure which/who:
I have a product idea,
and am talking with a company to manufacture it for me.
How do I protect the idea/
aka keep the company from running with it themselves?
I believe I want an agreement drawn up by an attorney.
what kind of legal practice would cover this and who does it?
Thanks all,
MZ
