[Hidden-tech] RE: social networking software

Unfortunately (and surprisingly) Ning wouldn't work for me in Firefox
(couldn't apply themes, etc) and in IE, even with it working, seemed
crummy..i.e. click on "Edit Appearance" and you're redirected to a FAQ
page. I know people seem to find is useful, but I got a really lousy
impression.

Are there any other things like it out there that folks would recommend?
Doesn't have to be a free service.
