[Hidden-tech] How do you make a cellphone ringtone?

Hi Robin,

I've got tons and tons of experience with this. I'm the CEO of Harmony Line
among other things and we developed a full-blown site called
www.h-lounge.com to support exactly this kind of interaction. Unfortunately
for you, the economics of the business were really bad and we scrapped it,
although elements of the site are still up and running (but ringtones don't
work anymore).

The fastest, cheapest ways to go are myxertones.com and Xingtone. Myxertones
is run by a friend of mine. You simply upload any digital audio you've got
to their site and enter in the phone number to send it to. It's off.
Supports virtually every carrier in the US. Xingtone sells a boxed product
that's a bit more integrated (e.g., lets you pick where you want the
ringtone to start and end) but I think it's $20 off the shelf. Mac and PC.
When I last met with the CEO of Xingtone, they were considering scrapping
the boxed product so I think it may be off shelf pretty soon.

If you've got more questions, let me know.

Regards,
Richard
