Hi Pat: The fix for this is very easy. Easily accessible inside your printer is a polished steel bar on which the print carriage rides. In time this bar gets gummed up and dry causing the squeaking sound you describe. The solution is to take a small bit of paper-towel or toilet tissue, spray some WD40 on it, and gently wipe clean and lubricate the length of this bar with the paper. Be careful when you do this. There is a VERY SHARP steel band inside the printer that pulls the carriage back and forth that will easily cut your fingers. Take this lubricated piece of paper and feed it behind the bar to lubricate the back side of the bar as well as the front. DO NOT spray the WD40 directly into the printer. There are electrical contacts and rubber friction rollers inside the printer that will not work correctly if sprayed. Repeat this procedure every year or so, or more often if the printer gets a lot of use. Email or call if you need more help with this. Depending on where you are I can come help fix this for you.
