My experience with Vonage was not good. The reception was poor, often sounding like I was talking to someone on the other side of the world. And if I ever had to call customer service, I usually was. Also, if I ever had any problem with the internet and had to reboot my modem, the Vonage box was involved too which occasionally made for extreme headaches. After a computer crash last spring I was on the phone with Vonage for hours trying to get my phone up and running again, and the first technician finally threw in the towel and got a higher up to try to figure out the problem. Shortly after that I canceled my Vonage service and got a cell phone. You might be better off with Skype and a usb phone (not sure if their basic service is free anymore though). I'm still a fan of land lines. Mary Mary C. Joan & Steve, I know you said that newer technologies don't work as well since you're in Northfield, but "Vonage" might be something to look into since it's based on your internet connection and you're happy with that service. I've been tempted by Vonage for some time now, but haven't made the switch quite yet. not sure what others experience has been using Vonage...
