I use a Macintosh program called "TNEF's Enough" which allows one to look inside a winmail.dat file and extract the files you want. You can get it here: http://www.joshjacob.com/macdev/tnef/ There may also be other software out there that does the same thing. I find it easier to deal with this issue on my end rather than ask clients to change a few settings in their Outlook and to resend things to me.
