Roundtable Discussion: Pragmatic Software Process

 

For several years, the software development industry has been abuzz with
new software process ideas like agile, scrum, CMMI, lean, XP, and more.
The tool vendors have followed with solutions to match.  Choosing
processes and tools amidst the media overload is difficult.  Further,
the best solution for one product or organization could be problematic
for another.  For example, writing user stories (XP) on index cards and
fleshing out detailed requirements during development doesn't work for
my organization.  There are two reasons: (1) a verbal exchange of
requirements with the client too often leads to disagreement over what
transpired later (2) I can't provide accurate estimates of work to
clients without more detailed requirements.

 

During this session, participants will discuss their experiences with
software process, what works, why, what doesn't work, and why not.  Jami
Albro-Fisher will facilitate.  Please come to learn and share.  We'll
plan future sessions based on conversation and interest from this one.

 

Jami Albro-Fisher is Director of Engineering at MetaComet Systems, an

Travel Interstate 91 North, take Exit 17B (Easthampton). Follow Route
141 to Easthampton. At the foot of the mountain, turn right onto East
St. Follow for approx. 2.3 miles. Turn left on to Ferry St. Follow to
the end. Take a left onto Pleasant St. Go approx 3/10 of a mile,
Eastworks will be on your left at 116 Pleasant St. Enter the main
entrance and take the stairs or elevator to the 3rd floor. The Atalasoft
office is just past the Eastworks office on the left, Suite 321

the bottom of the ramp. Follow route 5 to Easthampton. Turn right onto
East St. Follow for approx. 1.5 miles. Turn right on to Ferry St. Follow
to the end. Take a left onto Pleasant St. Go approx 3/10 of a mile,
Eastworks will be on your left at 116 Pleasant St. Enter the main
entrance and take the stairs or elevator to the 3rd floor. The Atalasoft

(if you miss East St. and end up in the town of Easthampton, follow
signs for Rt. 10 north, and take a right at the rotary onto Pleasant St.
Eastworks will be on your right.)
