I run Mac OS - not yet up to the Intel CPU, but have discussed the Windows-on-Mac with other friends who do have the Intel CPU. If performance is the biggest concern, there is no question that Boot Camp is the way to go - gotta reboot into each OS, which is a pain, but the performance gain is worth it. Using Parallels or MS Virtual Machine will work pretty well ('tis what my buddy prefers) and allow you that connivence of running both concurrently. However, you'll want to up the RAM as much as you can... 2GB is coming standard on the 17" MacBook Pro, which is probably fine. Protecting a PC is the same as always - fully installed or within a Parallels environment - you just must install a competent security package - Norton, et al.. Hope this helps.
