David: I wholeheartedly endorse the PMBA program, especially at UMass. I was in one of the early "classes" for the program and received my UMass PMBA in Sept. 1995. Within six months of receiving the degree I was able to make my next career move (and salary jump). Every business I have since interviewed with or been employed with looked well upon my UMass business degree, usually not distinguishing between MBA or PMBA. Many folks realize the value - and the drive it takes - to go to graduate school while working at the same time. Many have said the class experience is much richer because there is a predominance of real-world business experiences discussed in the classes by people from a wide variety of industries. And as the reputation of the UMass buisness school has grown, so has the value of my PMBA. I have also realized, a number of years after taking the courses, that the foundation provided the various required courses and the electives you can take (one of my favorites was on "reengineering") gives you a much better base to converse with co-workers or potential employers across a much more diverse area of topics (accounting & finance, operations management, organziational development, etc.). Two years of course work at night, even with a couple subjects I didn't enjoy but knew I needed, was a small price to pay considering the rewards I've reaped since getting the degree. --- David Korpiewski <davidk at cs.umass.edu> wrote: > ** Be a Good Dobee and help the group, you must > be counted to post . > ** Fill out the survey/skills inventory in the > member's area. > > > Hey there Hidden-techies, > > I'm looking to understand how useful a PMBA > (Professional MBA) is in > the real world.
