[Hidden-tech] Donating Computers Advise/Information?

Having many not-for-profits and schools for clients, it's generally my
experience that one gets what one pays for from a free computer. Even for a
semi-new (3-5 year old) PC, I can easily make the argument that by the time
they've paid for OS, software and RAM upgrades, not to mention my time,
they've often already sunk 75% of the cost of a new computer. In almost all
cases, they choose to go for the new one - especially since they get a
warranty, too.

Dell allows any not-for-profit that receives state/federal funding to make
purchases under the corresponding government contract schedule. This is
generally a much more cost effective option than "buying retail", plus they
don't come with all that junky "extra" software new computers might
otherwise come with.

Regarding the old computers (and they are *old*), you can order two
recycling kits from Dell for $25.

Best,
Cody Anderson

Anyone have information on donating "obsolete" computers? Do you know of
any organizations/individuals that would be able to use older Macintosh
notebooks/desktops? Preferably local.

Would rather donate than recycle. Any info on donating computers would be
helpful.

Have done some research on the following websites, anything to share
regarding experiences with these orgs?:

www.cristina.org
www.worldcomputerexchange.org
www.tecschange.org
sharetechnology.org

Specifically, the computers to donate (so far) are:
1 Powerbook Duo 230
1 Powerbook 2400c/180
1 Macintosh Performa 6400c/180
1 Macintosh Centris 650
1 PC - a notebook: AMS Tech Travelex 105

Thanks!
