Hi all, In case you haven't been reading local papers, we all have an opportunity to boost development of biodiesel and gain back investment capital, along with earn discounts to a variety of renewable energy products. Northeast Biodiesel is seeking investors and CO-op Power, which formed Northeast Biodiesel, is seeking members. Both aim to develop biodiesel for sale in the Northeast. Made from recycled vegetable oil and diesel, this fuel has gained acceptance of folks like our president and the American Trucking Association, neither known for being rah-rah on renewables. Officials at Northeast Biodiesel tell me they're taking orders and they haven't even started to produce fuel! From research I'm conducting for American Trucking Association publications, biodiesel is emerging as the best bet for the truck market, which ranges from pickups to the sorts of large vehicles you see on the highways. That's a lot of trucks. And, yes, some cars take diesel, as well. It's not the be all and end all. Hybrids are starting to emerge in the light truck market and auto makers are starting to build flex-fuel pickups that handle ethanol (another renewable fuel). But I think there will be demand for biodiesel for a good number of years. Northeast Biodiesel may be the only plant in New England, but don't quote me. When I saw the map of biodiesel plants nationwide, it certainly stood out. If you want to know, for sure, you should reach Lynn Benander at 413-552-6446. She can fill you in on the business and the cooperative, which will own the business fully within 10 years. There are some sweat equity memberships, as well, though they're limited. best, Amy Zuckerman Hidden-Tech founder, co-chair
