My clientele was mostly local until about 1995, and I did worry when I moved to the country in 1998 if the need to have a car would be an obstacle to clients. It hasn't been, but in the late 90s my business started shifting toward a mostly nonlocal clientele, for whom it's a non-issue. If anything, it's an advantage, because with a $700 mortgage, I don't need to charge anywhere near what copywriters charge in large cities (and make this clear to them). My farthest client has been from Japan; the most consistent source in California. Local clients are less than 25% of my business. For me, knowing that you're doing the library thing would be a virtue, Marcia--but I'm a library kind of guy. >On 8/3/06 5:56 AM, "Marcia Yudkin" <marcia at yudkin.com> wrote: > >> ** Be a Good Dobee and help the group, you must be counted to post . >> ** Fill out the survey/skills inventory in the member's area. >> >> >> If you love living in the Valley, as I do, how do you "spin" your location >> to big-city clients? >> >> Here's an article I recently wrote that contains reflections on this topic: >> >> http://www.yudkin.com/spinning.htm >> >> Comments welcome! >> >> Marcia Yudkin >> Goshen >> >> _______________________________________________ >> Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net >> Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net >> >> You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list. >> If you would like to change your list preferences, Go to the Members >> page on the Hidden Tech Web site. >> http://www.hidden-tech.net/members >> > > >_______________________________________________ >Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net >Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net > >You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list. >If you would like to change your list preferences, Go to the Members >page on the Hidden Tech Web site. >http://www.hidden-tech.net/members -- _________________________________________________ Shel Horowitz - 413-586-2388/800-683-WORD shel at frugalfun.com -->Join the Business Ethics Pledge - Ten Years to Change the World, One Signature at a Time (please tell your friends) <http://www.business-ethics-pledge.org> Marketing consulting * copywriting * publishing assistance * speaking How to market ethically/effectively: http://www.frugalmarketing.com Ethics Blog: http://www.principledprofit.com/good-business-blog/ _________________________________________________
