[Hidden-tech] Shopping cart recommendations?

Hi Anne,

The only commercial cart I've tried that addresses ALL of your
client's wishes (including the Quickbooks export) is digiSHOP,
weighing in at $349.00 per license (http://digishop.sumeffect.com/).
Unfortunately this package also generates a lot of junk code
(including unnecessarily encrypting images in the non-secure part of
the shopping session).

If you and/or your client can live with the invalid code (as
apparently a lot of people can), the architecture is pretty neat. You
supply the HTML template for the "bread" part of the sandwich, and
the shopping cart software supplies the "filling." So you end up
getting fairly good control over the look and feel.

If your client is open to compromising the Quickbooks compatibility
in lieu of a much more elegant (and affordable) out-of-the-box
package, I'd suggest CubeCart (http://www.cubecart.com/site/home/),
which generates valid xhtml/css (a rarity in the ecommerce world).
And it's free to download, try, and use; $69.95 to remove their
copyright notices. Their website has a pretty good knowledge base,
walking you through, for example, how to "skin" the cart to look
different.

Good luck. Me, I'm sticking with PayPal for a while...
