Hello, I'm a member of the Hidden Tech list under my personal address at WillaDesign.com, but I am also the Web Designer at Amherst College, and I wanted to let this list know about 3 new Web jobs at the college, in hopes that some of you might be interested. Here is the official notice from the college, with contact information at the end: Amherst College is creating a new Web Technology Support group to envision, build, and maintain Web applications for the College. The Web Technology Support group will be a new unit within the IT department and will work very closely with Public Affairs and other offices on campus. Amherst seeks a hands-on Director of Web Services as well as a Web Systems Administrator/Programmer and a Web Programmer to develop and support primarily open source applications. This Web group will work closely with the College Web designer in Public Affairs, database programmers from IT's Database Services division, and programmers and system administrators from IT's Systems and Networking group. Director of Web Services: Amherst seeks an experienced and imaginative manager of technologically sophisticated Web sites to oversee the technological aspects of ongoing and new Web-based activities for all areas of campus. Candidates must have hands-on experience in a Linux-Apache environment as well as knowledge of PHP, MySQL, XML, and other common open source tools. In addition, candidates should have thorough knowledge of such communication/collaboration tools as blogs, RSS, wikis, content management systems, CVS, etc. Candidates should have strong project and budget management skills as well experience supervising technical staff and communicating technical issues to non-technical colleagues. Web Systems Administrator/Programmer: Amherst seeks an experienced Web site system administrator who also has extensive knowledge and skills with server-side application development and support. Candidates must have thorough knowledge of Linux, Apache, Tomcat/Jakarta as well as extensive PERL, PHP, and XML skills. Knowledge of ODBC and SQL database standards, especially, MySQL, is required. Successful candidates will have 3-5 years of professional experience working on complex, database-driven Web projects in team environments with high quality and reliability requirements. Candidates should be experienced supporting and working on Web sites which utilize CVS and content management systems. Web Programmer: Amherst College seeks an experienced Web Programmer with extensive knowledge of XML,XHTML, DHTML, CSS, and other evolving Web publishing protocols. Successful candidates will also have knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, XSLT, client-side scripts, and their evolving standards and methods of implementation. Candidates with experience working in a Linux-Apache environment are preferred. Successful candidates will have professional experience working on complex, database-driven Web projects in team environments with high quality and reliability requirements. Candidates should be experienced working on Web sites which utilize CVS and content management systems.
