[Hidden-tech] Future of Dreamweaver and Flash; Move on Microsoft?

My understanding is that Adobe has a past history of "freaking out",
thinking that Microsoft is about to swoop down and eat its lunch, and then
makes hasty acquisitions. John Dvorak wrote a good article about this, in
which he suggested that this was just such a case. That there isn't that
much "synergy" between the two companys, and that meshing them together will
be a bear. That essentially, Abode did it because they were desperately
afraid that Microsoft was about to do it first, so they are playing keep
away.

I believe the article can be found at

although the link wasn't functional when I tried it today. There is also a
related Slashdot discussion thread at:

Hi Techies,

Just wondered if anybody heard any scoops on last weeks acquisition of
Macromedia by Adobe? Perhaps some of you with prediction skills care to
prognosticate?

Here's some links to eweek articles:

For myself, I wonder whether the two products -- Dreamweaver and GoLive
-- will be allowed to co-exist or will be combined. That really creeps
me out, since Dreamweaver MX is one of my bread-and-butter apps. I
don't see LiveMotion as a true contender to outlive Flash MX. And I
believe Illustrator will continue to exist. What also intrigues me is
that this might be Adobe's bold move into the enterprise document
market -- Microsoft's traditional domain.

I'd be interested in any other opinions out there.

Thanks,

Kimo Lee
