Hi folks, Thanks to everyone for all of your suggestions. I was hoping somebody knew of some Linux vendor I didn't know about, but I guess I haven't missed anything. I should have mentioned that I live in Maryland, so some of the options didn't work for me. In the end, I bought a Compaq Pressario SR1303WM-B at Walmart for $494 before tax. I put up more details about it on my blog at http://www.jfdill.com/index.php?p=7 if you are interested. The MacMini was an interesting option, but is on back order here in MD at least. I liked the "back to basics" suggestion of getting an Intel motherboard, and I used the basic specs for a $500 HP Pavillion from Walmart to kind of "restrain" myself, but however I tweaked the configuration I was coming out over $700 by the time I added the monitor. I will probably revisit the Intel approach next year, but buying a laptop is going to be the next priority--probably LinuxCertified or Sager. Best, --jonathan
