Dear Wonderful Techies

I am a newbie about digital video/audio. The last time I edited or recorded
anything it was analogue.

My G5 Imac runs OSX Tiger. I keep discovering all kinds of new things. I
know there is a mic input, so I wondered if I can record talk.

I¹ve tried asking Mac Help about sound recordings but all the info is
circular. I can¹t even find out how to record an alert sound. It does
mention something about ³a midi²

Is there a good site to look for that info? If I were to go to the Apple
knowledge base what would I ask?

What is a midi?

What do I need to make digital talk recordings?

Are there programs that use the computer sound system?

Much obliged
Robin
